Activities

In these early days, the Federation has still to spread its wings, but we have already achieved much:

• representatives of the Federation have taken part in an event at the House of Commons which included leading medical researchers and MPs
• it has representatives on important committees such as the Prostate Cancer Charter for Action, and the Prostate Cancer Advisory Group
• it is having considerable influence on revision of the Prostate Cancer Risk Management Programme (Guidance for Primary Care)
• it made a contribution to the NICE Clinical Guideline on Prostate Cancer published in February 2008
• it represents UK patients in Europa Uomo, the Coalition of European prostate cancer support organisations
• we have held the Inaugural Conference (Launch Event) at which over 55 representatives of 24 patient-led support groups attended

Decisions about expanding our activities now await the formation of a committee representative of the wider set of local patient-led groups in the UK, i.e. after the Launch Event . However, we expect at least to do the following:

• continue representation on the Prostate Cancer Charter for Action, and the Prostate Cancer Advisory Group, with an elected representative
• manage small grants to member organisations being made available by Prostate UK
• hold a regular Annual Conference.
