How to join the Federation

MembershipMembership is open to Organisations which have objects and or aims that are compatible with the aims of the Federation. As defined in the Federation Constitution the Federation admits Members in the following categories:

  • Member Organisations, which are patient-led support organisations whose principle activities are directed towards prostate cancer patients.
  • Partner Organisations, which are organisations, which are not necessarily patient-led, but have a legitimate interest in prostate cancer and support the Object of the Charity and express a wish to join in that category.
  • Honorary Members, who are individuals who do not belong to a member organisation but are invited to join by the Trustees because they have had a long standing legitimate interest in prostate cancer and support the Object of the Charity.

The implications of the categorisation above are amplified in the Federation Rules.

A patient-led support charity or group is one that has all of the following;

  • A membership of at least 15 individuals who have or have had prostate cancer, their partners, families and lay carers.
  • Objects and or aims that are compatible with those of this Charity.
  • A policy of complete transparency whereby their governing document, accounts and proceedings are open to public scrutiny.
  • An elected managing committee, 75% of who are individuals as set out above and who have to stand for re-election at regular intervals.

There is a levy payable for membership of the Federation. Currently this is set at £1 per declared member of the Member Organisation, up to a maximum of £100, due on the 1st January of each year.
